Guide for Maintenance and Repair Requests
This guide serves to assist residents in determining the specific nature of any maintenance and repair problems in URI on-campus residence halls and undergraduate apartments, and in reporting those problems to the correct response department. In addition to general building custodial needs, residence hall Housekeepers attend to window shade/rod and shower curtain rod repairs. Also, if a light fixture does not work properly, please ask your Housekeeper to replace the light bulb. If it is an electrical problem, the Housekeeper will report it to the appropriate repair shop.
Clogged sinks, showers and toilets need to be plunged before being called in as a maintenance and repair request. Plungers are located in each residence hall staff office. If the residence hall Housekeeper is available s/hewill assist you as well.
Residents having trouble getting in and out of a room because the door keeps locking should first check the privacy lock on the inside back of the door before calling in a maintenance and repair request. Just push it in and turn.
Otherwise, any maintenance and repair requests should be directed as follows:
· MAINTENANCE problems, call 4-4060.
· COMPUTER, NETWORK, or CABLE TV problems, call 4-HELP.

A work order will be generated and assigned to the appropriate shop and addressed by the proper personnel as soon as possible.
BEING SPECIFIC HELPS! HERE ARE SOME EXAMPLES:
- Tiles are broken.
- Is it floor, ceiling, or ceramic tiles?
* Window is broken.Is it a large or small window?
Is it the handle , hinge or lock?
Inside or outside pane, shattered or pieces of glass all over?
* Toilet is broken.
Is the handle not working?
Is it continuously running?
Does it leak? From Where? All the time or only when you flush?
* No hot water.
Is it just one room or whole floor?
Is it in the shower, sink or both?
* Door is broken.
Is the door hinge or door closure loose?
Is the latch catching on the frame?
* Problems with combo.
Are combo numbers sticking. If so, which numbers?
Combo flashing red – battery needs to be changed.
* Bathroom handle broken.
Is it a stall door handle, main door handle
faucet, sink or shower handle?
