About the Department of Housing and Residential Life

The Department of Housing and Residential Life (HRL) is a large and multi-functional organization employing an experienced, dedicated, and diverse staff. Our department is arranged into five primary functional areas: Central Administrative Services; Residential Education and Conduct; Graduate/Specialty Housing and Rental Properties; Fiscal Management and Services; and Facilities Services.  We are one of the largest student employers at the University of Rhode Island, and we are proud to serve in that capacity. Our undergraduate Resident Assistants are among the University’s finest student leaders.  All Housing and Residential Life employees seek to provide our residents and our campus colleagues with the highest degree of quality and commitment to service and learning.

Housing and Residential Life is a department within the University’s Division of Student Affairs.  HRL currently manages 22 undergraduate residence halls, 4 graduate and undergraduate apartment complexes, and the Rainbow Diversity House.  We offer several first year living and learning communities(LLC) as well as the Health Sciences House in Wiley Hall and the CELS House in Garrahy Hall, both upper class theme communities.  Approximately 5000 students are currently housed in these residences.

We invite you to learn more about us through our Vision, Mission/Values, and Diversity Statements, Chart of Organization, and Staff Directory, or contact us at the phone numbers listed below.
