Living & Learning and Theme Communities at URI

An on-campus Living and Learning Community (LLC) is an entire residence hall, or a portion of a residence hall, that is assigned by academic college, major, or academic interest. Most of the students residing in an LLC not only share common academic interests and attend some classes together, but also form study and academic support groups, share access to Residential Academic Mentors (RAMs), and attend faculty-sponsored programs within their residential communities. Generally, one RAM resides in each LLC and is there to provide academic support assistance to the residents of that community.

First Year Residents

Freshmen residents are automatically assigned to the LLC for their academic college, major, or program.  Residency in LLCs is provided on a first come-first served basis. For more information visit the web site of the LLC of interest.  For information about on-campus housing call 401-874-4151.

Additionally, freshmen can apply to reside in either of the two following Theme Living Communities. Please note that students must be second semester freshmen to apply to the IEP House.

Upperclassman Residents

Upperclassmen may apply to reside in one of the following LLC.  Upperclassmen that are interested in, and qualify for, residency in one of these LLC must follow the application procedures developed for each community.  For more information visit the web site of the LLC of interest.
